Jasmine's 3D Object Design Blog

The freedom allowed for this particular assignment was quite daunting for me at first. I could make whatever I want, so what should I do? Well, I decided to push myself and see if I can test out my 3D modelling skills that I have gained so far and try and create a model based off a character that I really enjoy. I've found myself really getting back into the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise lately and one character from Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS specifically couldn't leave my mind and served as a perfect fit for this project in particular. I'm talking about the adorable cleaning robot Roboppi! As soon as I saw this little guy I instantly knew I would love him. His simplistic form combined with the variety of shapes served as amazing practice for my current skillset in Rhino 7. Plus it's such an amazing feeling to see a character typically seen in 2D to bridge the gap into the 3rd dimension. I'm really proud of what I was able to create with this extra credit assignment.  For this assignment I was tasked to create an object with eight unique forms in Rhino 7 that can be unfolded and recreated in paper. I was having trouble coming up with an idea for an item that would be meaningful to me, so I decided to take this project in a slightly different direction. I wanted to create something that would have meaning in my life, so I decided to create a simplified and more cubical version of a character I made around two years ago. I've used this character for a lot of my personal projects including a 60+ page comic script that I created almost a whole year ago. The character was originally a lot more spherical, but I was running into a few issues in the creation process, forcing me to simplify and work with cubes and polygons instead. If I were to go further with this idea, I would love to add more detail and make this design truly shine. 

 When analyzing and reading the list of articles, I was immediately drawn to the work of Hari and Deepti and their visually captivating lightboxes. The couple uses the medium of paper to layer pieces on top of one another to create a stunning visual when put under a light. These boxes have a narritive element to it, creating a great sense of mood for the piece.  The simplistic style along with the way the light moves through the pieces speaks for itself. Their work is very illustrative in nature, and yet it brings in a whole other dimension by utilizing the material of paper. Hari and Deepti continue to create these works and have even created a narrative picture book using the style of their artworks.  The impact of the pieces when the light isn't utilized also creates an interesting work of art. Looking closely at all the small cuts and layers of the paper shows just how much work is put into every single piece. Every layer contributes to the mood and detail of the work...

 For the final step in the mesh mashup project, I was tasked to import my model to Rhino 7 and give my model an HD upgrade. I added some red and blue lighting effects along with some fitting textures in order to really bring my model to life. I'm really proud of the progress that I have made and the final result of this awesome mashup.

 For this week's project, I was assigned to choose one of the ten mashups I created last week and recreate the chosen model in Mesh Mixer. This was a very tough choice for me, as I wasn't entirely sure which direction I wanted to go in for my final model. However, the feedback from last class set me onto the right path. I had gotten a lot of feedback from my various classmates on which remixed model I should choose. I recieved quite the variety of opinions, ranging from going with a more simple design with a stronger message or making something more over-the-top and out there for my final model. I took all the feedback I recieved into consideration but decided on a remix that I not only thought could be strong conceptually, but could also be improved and expanded upon within the new program.  For this project, I was tasked to mash two or more models from the website Thingiverse in order to create an entirely new remixed model in Tinkercad. I have meshed together ten remixed models that will be showcased here: The first is a remix between an arcade machine and some mechanical robot legs. I wanted to combine both old technology with new in order to create an entirely new feeling to this creation. Banana Pear is one of my more comedic models. I thought that combining two pieces that aren't typically mixed together would create an interesting result. This was one of my more random ideas. I wanted to choose some of the leftover pieces I had from previous models to see what I could create. Combining the cup, the apples and the bear head resulted in quite the interesting composition. For my first official assigment within my 3D Object Design course, I was tasked to watch Gary Huskwit's documentary called Objectified and to design an object in the program Tinkercad inspired by the film. I decided to go with an old CRT Television and VHS set as my object of choice. I was inspired by a particular part in the documentary where it was mentioned that many of the objects that designers create end up in landfills. The documentary showed a lot of old TVs and computer hardware that was unused and eventually dumped. The object that I connected with the most was the old-fashioned CRT TV sets. I had grown up with VHS tapes and old TVs just when they were starting to slowly go out of style, as the new wave of technology was rolling in, so I have a deep nostalgic connection to older media players and technology of the sort.
